Evaluation , Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

From doing my preliminary task I feel that I have learnt a whole new range of different skills and the skill of using different technologies. By doing the preliminary task it enabled me to have a taster of what it was like to actually film using basic camera shots. Also it was a great way for me to practice using the camera and it was a good way of me progressing and getting better. Doing the preliminary I learnt editing isn’t as straight forward and easy as I thought, it actually takes a lot of time and concentration to edit not just a whole clip but one piece of footage. Using final cut pro isn’t simple at all it actually takes quite a while to get the hang of it, but once you understand how to use it, it is much easier for you to organise your footage so that the clip flows correctly. Doing this unquestionably built my knowledge and understanding and gave me more insight on things that are right to do and things that aren’t. Below Is clip of our preliminary task I’m the one in the footage and had to learn what things to do when shooting a scene, also below is the clip of our final media product, this time I was the one behind the camera and had much more understanding on how I wanted the shots to look.

Evaluation, Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learned a whole range of things about technology while constructing my media product.
Camera: before if you had given me a camera to shoot a movie I wouldn’t completely know how to start. But filming footage I learnt loads of things. I can now use manual and auto focus and also I am now able to use the external microphone on the camera.

Apple Mac & Final Cut Pro : to complete our media product we had and apple imac computer and final cut pro software to use, both of which I hadn’t used before so learning how to do it now is a great accomplishment to myself. I learnt how to transfer my footage from the tape; I did this with the help of my lecturer by logging then capturing the footage. I had to pay complete attention when being shown how to do this, my lecturer sat with me and we both had to keep close eye to which bits of the footage were needed and which bits of footage was irrelevant. Also going by the footage I learnt how to pick the appropriate type of music to go with my product that again had to be done with a lot of concentration.

‘Blogger’ and ‘Youtube’ – I learnt how to create, edit and document my work on a blog. I also learnt how to upload and embed a video using youtube, this helped a lot as it made my blog look much more interesting and professional.

Evaluation, Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Well the images below show the centre point of where the whole movie is supposed to take place.

Looking at the photos you can see that the location is a learning establishment of some kind, this would appeal to those who are in this type of establishment because they could relate to the environment of where the movie is.

For the title of our movie I used a simple type of text and a plain background, I think this goes well with the whole mystery feel of the clip so it would appeal to the target audience.
The results of the questionnaire that was made to ask for people’s opinions about horror films made it easier to pick on what kind of things should be in the footage. Also the feedback was good as well as it made me aware of things I should do next time.

Evaluation, Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I would say the target audience of our product would array from teenagers to young adults ranging from the ages of 15 to 25. Going through our footage I would say our media product isn’t necessarily aimed at a specific gender, I think our target audience male or female would be interested in watching the film. How a male gender might react to the film might vary, in our media product the main character is a girl also she is a girl who is bullied in school by another group of girls so looking at that point females are more likely to relate to the character and story line so it may appeal more to them. But the blood and gore theme may circulate well with the male audience as men usually like those sorts of movies. When researching on the internet to see what top horror movies people of my target audience like these were some of the films listed:

·         Friday The 13th

·         Scream

·         Shaun Of The Dead

·         The Ring

·         28 Days Later

·         The Hills Have Eyes

·         The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
